Back to the Future

It had been sixteen years stuck under that roof, under that man's totalitarian authority- the insanity that had to be endured for the good of humanity.

Bullshit.

Five wasn't that naive thirteen year old anymore, rapt for his father's attention and approval, nor was he interested in doing his bidding as his experimental crime-stopping vigilante. And he wasn't the only Hargreeves child to start thinking like this- Allison was much more inclined to use her powers to get her way than to fight crime, Klaus wanted nothing more than to get high and to forget about his power, and if Ben were still alive he would have said 'to hell with it!' and been gone before them all. It was only Luther and Diego that were truly still inclined to do the dirty work of Sir Reginald. Diego was more so still here just because he was addicted to the lifestyle and wearing that stupid spandex (or leather, whatever!). Those two were always kiss-asses to dad anyway but as far as Five was concerned, he was done with all this crazy nonsense. He had more important matters to attend to, such as the one he and his one and only friend in that house were about to pursue: Time-Travel.

The sun as stretching into dawn when Five rolled out of bed, perhaps the last time he would do so in that house, as he went about his morning ritual but with a sense of urgency. It had been long since that Grace, their dear robot mother and care-taker, had gone around their rooms to wake them up in her well, graceful manner, and the morning family breakfast was in shambles ever since that one incident with the eggs and toast and Reginald had thrown up his hands and told them all to do what they pleased as far as breakfast was concerned. So that gave Five ample opportunity to accomplish what needed to be done that fateful morning. Because this morning would be the morning he would leave this place. Or more specifically, they. Because he was taking Vanya with him.

His dear adoptive sister, and a girl he had come to know as his one and only friend and confidant in that house. When he had convinced her to do this with him he had been elated. She wanted out of that hellhole as much as anyone, being the black sheep of the family. Apparently she had no powers like the rest of the gifted children in that house. Or teenagers, they were hardly children anymore! Five didn't care though, he saw her just as special as the rest and even more so because she had something the others lacked: empathy. He could always go to her and tell her his worries and grievances, and she would only sit there and listen and offer up her precious smiles and looks of understanding. She had a way of comforting and soothing Five that no one else had discovered how to in that place. Along with that, she was kind, charming and funny in her own way. He enjoyed being with her and that was why he had gone to her with this impending want, nay, need, to get out of that place and in a way that meant they would never be discovered, via time travel.

So when he suggested it to her she was at first disarmed and reluctant. He had soon changed her tune and had her agree to attempt the seemingly impossible feat with him on this date and time in the month of August. So now as he went about his room, checking over things and making sure he left things just how he wanted them- neat and tidy, he grabbed his note-book of equations and theories and stuffed it into his jacket pocket along with his favorite pen. The only other object on his person was a flash light, lighter and switchblade. Minimalistic, but enough for Five for wherever they ended up. He knew he wanted to go at least a dozen years or so into the future, maybe more, if all went well. He also had some cash stuffed at the bottom fo his shoe, a few thousand he'd stolen from Reginald's private vault (an early inheritance) and he figured that would suffice for them until they could find real jobs.

They were really doing it, he thought as he looked into his full-framed mirror, scanning his face for any signs of doubt or worry. There were none, he had perfected his mask over the years and even to himself. He had all the confidence in the world for this mission of theirs and he wasn't about to back down now. And so with that he turned and walked into the blue light and found himself in the familiar room that was Vanya's. He suspected she was awake, perhaps hadn't been able to sleep a wink as he had, when he reached her bed and looked down at her covered form. "It's time." He spoke lowly but with a certain anticipation as he looked at the rising sun coming up outside her window. There was no tell tale sign of nerves on Five unless one looked closely and saw the way his shoulders were tensed and his eyes were harder than usual, more piercing as he saw the world as he would see it for the last time in that period. "Have you got everything you need?" He went on to ask, knowing she would probably take the more sentimental things which of course included her violin, her precious instrument. He looked serious as he watched her rise and tried to push down the gradual worry in his stomach. All the 'what if's and 'what could's' as he tried to go over the equations in his mind as he'd done hundreds fo times before. He was ready, he tried to assure himself, they were ready and this was happening. No turning back now.

She hadn't slept a bit the night before, with the excitement that came with leaving that home forever. There was of course the jitters, the fears if they were tipped off before they could leave, or that something could go horribly wrong. What were they to do in the future? Would they survive? She may have been overthinking it all, but then Vanya had also been so thrilled to finally get away from it all that those fears had been a bit delayed in showing themselves. She lay in her bed still, her eyes gazing across the room where her violin case had been sitting. There within it, had been the instrument that she loved so, as well as a couple of books she wasn't quite ready to part with. A backpack filled with a few extra clothes and even some food for the trip.  Yes, she'd been prepared. If anything came from her never leaving those confines had been that she at least had picked up a thing or two by watching her Mom.

Speaking of which, Grace had been doing her rounds of wake up duty, a perfectly timed event that Vanya had down pact.  Grace would enter, give a cheerful and gentle wake up notice, and then leave.  Exactly ten minutes later, she would return and do so again with a bit more urging to go on and ' get the day started ' Vanya was in that ten minute period at that point. A good three minutes in as the robotic Mother had practically just left her room to then visit with Luther who would more have likely already been up and at it in order to try ( and fail ) to impress Dad. Then she would visit Diego, and work her way back down to Number Seven. And so? It meant that Five had to show, and she couldn't stop herself from smiling at knowing that. She had already been sitting up, half tempted to already have her case in hand and backpack on her back. But for now, she chose to wait, if only that one time she misjudged those equally robotic ways of their robot Mom.

Those jitters did linger, would Five really go through with it? Did he really just intend to leave her there? The latter she doubted, she had felt she had known the often cocky superhero long enough to know better. He wasn't like that, he was entirely different from the others who were more concerned with themselves than they were her. And those encouraging words had made the long haired girl smile again, even as the two pills she then took hadn't exactly hurt any either. For now, she sat in silence, or at least what she could of it.  She could hear the occasional shuffling outside the door, those who Grace had finally stirred awake and those zombie like footsteps that went down to the dining room. Then there was Grace herself, the clicking of her heels echoing in Vanya's ears, the scraping of beds moving when others are standing up, and then the pop. That tiny blip noise that soon brings the bright bluish white light with it.

It was Five, he really did show! Vanya had pulled herself from her bed almost instantly, that smile more than evident on her face as though she really felt that he may have betrayed her. " I have everything. " She was quick to add. " A couple books, my violin, a few clothes, some sandwiches and some water. " She went on, thinking if there were anything else. A toothbrush and that sure, that was packed away in there. The backpack itself stuffed to it's very limits! Maybe it was over kill, but she hadn't known what they were in for. It was then that she slipped it on her back and case had been held in her hand when she smiled to him again. " Are you ready? " She had to ask him in turn.  She could hear Grace coming, if she was right than she would be on her way to seeing Klaus at that point. " We should go, we're running out of time. " By now, she was a bit too accustomed to how he could jump, going as far as even reaching out and already taking his hand.

She did give her room one more look, the mostly plain walls and plenty of things worth leaving behind.. such as her time there. She stepped closer, something that surprisingly had made her more nervous than that leap into the unknown that the two had been planning! But it had to be. They had planned to leave together one day and that day had finally come, after all those years of being the forgotten Hargreeves child, she could go on and never have to worry about that again. As it were, the only person who mattered had been standing there with her, so close that she had to take a small step back for her opposite hand to move just to his back so she could hold on. " She's in the room with Klaus, I can hear her talking. " Vanya assumed he knew. Her own hearing had been highly sensitive but it was something never noted, and so she believed that it had been just as normal as that of everyone else.  She looked to the door once more, this time she was mostly avoiding eye contact with him because for whatever reason he'd made her nervous. Maybe it was just due to his own attitude, how he could be so confident and back it up, where as Vanya.. was oh so much the opposite.

Five felt some of his anxiety disappear at the sight of her soft smile. She really had grown into a pretty young woman, maybe not as vivaciously as perhaps Allison but Five noticed. He was the only one that did and he selfishly awaited the moment when he would be the only one around to see her blossom even more attractively. The young teleporter had accepted long ago, somewhere in their early adolescence, that Vanya was nice on the eyes. That was putting it lightly though. Any sense of wrongness or guilt of thinking of her in that way dissolved with what little humility he had for himself. He had gotten far more rebellious in his aged youth and far less caring for what other people and their mock social conventions meant. It was like when their father caught Allison and Luther embracing too closely and had a field day with the 'morality of teenage adolescence!' as he gave them double training for that entire week. Five had merely sneered at the prude bastard and vowed to knock the old man's monocle clear off his face with the kind of over-affection he would show to Vanya on the days to come before their glorious departure. Five got a sick satisfaction from doing the exact opposite of what his father expected him to do. The moment he realized what kind of controlling, unloving monster Reginald really was, Five had gone out of his way every time he saw him to ruin the old man's day. Whether that was back-talking, pointedly leaving the table before he dismissed, disobeying a direct order, what have you, he was doing it. But perhaps his most daring move yet was the day, not even a week ago, that Five had stayed a few minutes more after breakfast was over and he had called Vanya over to talk to her about her duties for the day, that Five went right over to where she stood infant of him and made a comment about how he looked forward to Vanya's help that day and how it was extremely appreciated before planting a quick kiss upon her cheek. He told himself afterwards that it was simply to rile Reginald's nerves up but he couldn't help but feel the tingling of his lips the rest of the day as he left without truly getting a good look at how that had left Vanya.

"You really meant 'everything'." He commented, eyebrows raising as he looked over her things. She was resourceful, at least, and seemed much more prepared for the future than him. But Five was adaptable, and practical, and was more ready for a fight when they got to the future than a snack. But nonetheless, he was glad Vanya had thought of those things because they would surely be needing the extra fuel later. So at her words he gave a crooked smirk. "Born ready." Was all he said with his air of his known superiority. He couldn't help but chuckle slightly at her words about time; wasn't he the one that should be worrying about that? And why worry? They would soon have all the time in the world. "We're about to time-travel Vanya, don't cha think that's a bit of a moot point?" It was a question not meant to be answered, if only to serve to show off his utter insouciance to what they were about to do. He was feeling more sure of himself by the minute they dilly-dallied, and why should they hurry? Five enjoyed the adrenaline rush of potentially getting caught. He knew Vanya detested any sort of anxiety-inducing phenomena so he decided to oblige her in the end.

Feeling her hand in his he casually took his position and wrapped his arms around the small of her back, enjoying the nearness of their bodies before glancing toward the door. He took her word for it as she spoke of Grace and her impending entrance, even though the only thing he could really hear then was the beating of his own heart as it picked up. From the anticipation of jumping, to what they were doing, to her body sending his mind into over-drive, Five could only close his eyes as he felt all these things and tried to focus on the place he wanted them to go. And not a second later they were enveloped in the light and whirling through the traveling spacial continuum as their bodies descended upon the place they had previously decided to start their journey.

The trees around them were painted gold and brown as the sun inched its' way above the clouds. The park was a place they had frequented often over the years when they had snuck out of the house and gone off on their own. It was a small clearing with surrounding trees a little away from the rest of the public eye, in the midst of true nature and the perfect spot to jump through time. Five could smell the leaves and dirt as he pulled away some to look down at Vanya, standing a good few inches above her, as his hands remained on her waist gently. "This is it." He said, excitement border-lining his words as he stared upon her face. "We'll jump a decade and see how it goes." He studied her face some before asking the next question that had been on his mind for the past few days. "Are you sure you want to do this with me?" A part of him feared she would say she had changed her mind, that she was content living here in this time period a few more years until they could move out like normal adults. And if that were the case he would wait for her, knowing he couldn't do this alone and he wouldn't want anyone else to attempt this journey with him but her. They had gone through so much together and she was like a part of his existence, part of his very being. There couldn't be a world without her in it, past, present of future. He knew this deeply as he looked into her eyes with that calculated yet brief hesitance and vulmerbility that only she could see. And braced for her answer.

Maybe there was still a little bit of getting used to when it came to standing in her room, and then suddenly standing somewhere else.  There hadn't been any sort of pain or discomfort, but only an actual tickle that had often made Vanya giggle and then it was followed by a quick lightheaded feeling that left as quickly as it had come. And so why was she nervous now? There was that kiss, even if it were on her cheek and some days ago, Vanya still hadn't known the reason for it, much less if Five would even say.  She felt she had to say so, and yet, that thought alone had her nearly trembling.  What if he was upset? What if he'd done it as a trick? Both were possibilities she hadn't wanted to face when she felt his arms go around the small of her back and by instinct she stepped closer against him. This was a new step, jumping to Giddy's or to the attic were one thing, but traveling so far into the future? She hadn't wanted to mess that up, and so she froze up like a statue instead against him.

" There's nothing wrong with being prepared. We can't just expect everything to be there for us. "  Words whispered when she leaned a little closer to his ear to defend her reasoning behind dragging that overstuffed backpack with them. " I'm ready too. " As if she had to press that point more, while Number Five had become the number one thorn in Reginald's side, Vanya had a little bit of a rebel streak that wished to show itself and no better way than to flee that place once and for all.  Her eyes had been fixed to the door still, watching for those footsteps from beneath the door and her own nerves building at the way Five seemed to be in next to no rush! And then just like that, she could feel that shimmering bluish light engulfing her when she moved through it and had suddenly been outside where eyes had reopened to find that they no longer stood within her stuffy room.  It was one step, and Vanya had loosened her hold on him again when he pulled away from her. A happy nod following, this was it, they were going to really go for it!

His question had surprised her, did he really doubt her? Despite how nervous she was, she was also more sure of that than she had been of anything in a long time. She hadn't released him, and now more so she felt a need to hang on to him when he brought up her chance to have a change of heart, something which was impossible in her eyes. " And stay here without you? " She really hadn't had a choice, did she? She couldn't imagine him going on without her no more than she could imagine him having to put up with more of that same old bullshit because she opted out of their plans. " We need to leave, it was what we planned. I'm not leaving without you and you can't leave without me. " Sappy, kind of silly, childish. Whatever you really wanted to call it, Vanya hadn't cared. Sure, it was something said when they were around thirteen or so, and yet a couple years later the idea had been very much burnt into her mind. Whatever the future really had,  it was going to have them and not that hellhole that they were raised in.

Her mocha colored eyes had looked back over his shoulder at what she could see before her, wondering if it would change when he jumped a decade forward or not. The idea itself was wild, something that had sounded like it was more fit for a science fiction show. Still, Vanya had said her peace, which was a big yes to if she were still intent on going.  She shifted her hand some which held her violin case, and that had only been in part to her pressing herself more to him in a hug rather than that asme tight hold that she'd often done. " I'm ready when you are. " Really, she couldn't wait.  How was Sir Reginald going to deal with two of his trophies gone? Or even better, one of his trophies.  He may very well miss Five, but she doubted she'd be considered much of a loss.

Vanya found some amusement thus far though, how she couldn't help but feel that she was the one who was in a bigger rush to go than even Five may have been! " Are you still excited to go? " Those words had come out a bit meek, she hadn't even considered if he really had wanted to go or not or if he'd only been saying it to keep her happy. " If you don't want to, we can always wait.. " Her head tilted just a little so it was against his shoulder, waiting on his word or for him to act. She didn't need anyone in that home that wasn't much of a home, the only person who ever mattered was already there with her.

Five had smirked obtrusively at her words. He knew her over-packing had stemmed from her worry of what they would be faced with in the future. As far as he was concerned, the future would offer them everything they needed. An uncharacteristically naive notion but he was blinded by his great confidence. If only he knew what would really await them.

Her words made his heart clench. Did she really think he would leave her here if she decided not to go? The thought alone mortified him, he couldn't leave her in that house with that cruel man! She would surely go insane without him there to steer her away from the harsh treatment and false words the man had to offer her every step of the way. "God, I know that's true." He sighed with relief, glad he had her fully committed. And it was true, all of it, he wouldn't leave her here and he wouldn't go without her. Either way they were stuck with one another, and he wouldn't have it any other possible way.

When she shifted he found his hands moving upwards, arms securing her against his chest as he let her envelop him in a hug he didn't know he needed. He smiled softly as he moved his chin to rest just above her head, one of his hands moving to shift against the hair draped along her back. He felt her words against his chest and he couldn't help but chuckle, dipping his face down slightly so he was talking just over her ear, breath close enough to tickle a few strands of hair. "Hell yes, and don't you think we've waited long enough?" He was frustrated from the waiting, all the planning and calculating he'd done had all led up to this moment in time. "I'm doing this with you, we're doing this." He said it like a promise as he stared around him one last time, seeing how the wind ruffled the trees and a bird flew by overhead. "Just don't let go." He whispered, alerting her that he was ready to jump once again, and this time, to the beyond.

Closing his eyes and stilling his breath, Five let the world around him melt away until it was simply him, Vanya and the numbers inside his head. He thought about the date and time, exactly ten years from now, and let his grip tighten around her slowly, purposefully, knowing this would be unlike anything he had ever done before. This was it, it was happening. The future was now. And he was ready to grasp it.

Green eyes widening, pupils dilating at the exact moment he forced his power forward in time, he felt the earth shift under his feet and a tugging sensation pulling him every which away until it was like a car engine lurching forward and sending him forward through space. It felt like he was spiraling down a murky, freezing cold water, unable to breath, unable to think as he tried to focus on the one warmth by his side. He held onto her tight, feeling himself unfurling more and more until suddenly pop! and he felt the ground back underneath his feet, hard and real, and he felt a ringing in his ears as he gasped and looked around. The first thing he saw was a man in bright blue speed past on a bike, a distant bell ringing and a shout as if he had narrowly missed them. To his left where there were once trees was a narrow white building that looked like some sort of supermarket, and he realized that it was still the park but it had changed. Underfoot was concrete lot, and a few cars dotted around, looking much more sleek and refined than what he remembered. They were definitely in the future. He felt himself smiling, proud that he had actually did it! But how far were they? He looked down at Vanya, wondering if she was seeing the same thing he was.

"Vanya, you seeing this?" His grin was in his voice as he shook her some as if she might have been too scared to look around, and his gaze swerved around until he found a woman pushing a basket a few feet from them. "Hey, lady! What year is it?" The woman looked taken aback and blinked at him dumbly.

"Why, 2015?" She answered hesitantly and Five wanted to crow. Yes! Exactly 10 years! He'd done it!

She was ready. They were ready. All that waiting had finally come to that moment where Vanya no longer had to deal with being the most forgotten soul under the rule of Sir Reginald Hargreeves. And she couldn't have thought of a better person to leave with.  Five always cared, and she hoped that it may stay true to that even when the two pushed further into a future that they weren't yet supposed to reach. True, Vanya knew she'd miss people.  She may miss her 'siblings' she'd miss Mom and she would miss talking books with Pogo.  But it all had to be done, the change was needed and Vanya was now just at the final seconds before the biggest decision of her life. She held on to Five tightly, more so when she realized that the feeling of this jump hadn't been like the ordinary ones he had done before. This one really had a pull to it that she felt if she so loosened her grip even the slightest that she could have been ripped from him.  The weird way that her feet hadn't touched anything beneath her had been there causing her toes to curl within her shoes. Vanya closed her eyes tightly, just waiting for those feelings and the change of time travel to work it's way past her and to see where they end up.

When it all stopped, she could feel the ground at her feet again, she could feel that overwhelming urge of a lightheaded feeling that raced over her and she was slow in letting Five go for that sole reason. Her eyes reopened at his words, a bit dizzy still from certainly feeling effects far different than even she expected. But that all had faded fast, the world around them had been different, vehicles that she had seen before were now different in ways, people had been dressed differently and even signs advertising had been things that she was unfamiliar with. Her mouth had nearly dropped, looking around from him and back to the sights, even looking to the woman that Five ( so rudely! ) had called to.  " You did it! " It was 2015?! " Five you really did it! " Vanya couldn't stop smiling, the very idea of knowing that he had really done what he said he could and they had both been perfectly fine!

Of course, Vanya wasn't going to comment on how badly she knew it may have been feeding his ego.  Really, at this point he deserved it.  " You proved him wrong, you proved everyone wrong. I knew you could do it. " A softer smile sat on Number Seven, so proud that she was! " Come on. Let's see what else is different. " Could they spy on the Academy? Was that a wise idea? She hadn't really known other than what books and movies said about not messing with things because it could alter everything. She had pulled away, fingertips of her right hand only dragging away slowly from his arm when she fully released him. Already the sense of a new freedom had found Vanya, how she could now be out there and not within the confinement of the Academy. That no one could tell her that she was nothing special and she could try and become her own person at long last.  If anything, Vanya even found herself excited that she may even have real clothes, like a real person, and no more of those school uniforms that she and the others had to wear.

" How do you feel? " She took a few steps away, only to take a few steps back towards him to see if he had been okay.  He had in her opinion at least, one of the coolest powers of all the Hargreeves kids, but his came with the burden of wearing him out, and she hadn't wanted to further that by dragging him all about if he weren't really up to it.  " The park is nearby, we can go sit by the pond if you want to recharge a little.. " Vanya ever the caring one had to add.  That smile still very much there.  Oh, it'd take something big to get rid of it.  She was outdoors, the sun shining down on her, the leaves changing to mark a new season.  It was the start of a new day, it was their future.

Five was still a bit dizzy but Vanya's praise and smile made it all worth while. And the fact they were actually here, in the future! He had doubted himself, if only slightly, that it wasn't possible. That he wasn't able to pull it off but here was the evidence right in front of him. He found himself smiling dimly, a goofy giddiness about him as he tried to process the joy and slight overwhelmingness aftershock of what had just taken place.

"Thanks." He wanted to say for believing in me but he felt so physically exerted that he didn't know if he could even manage to walk straight let alone produce an entire functioning sentence. He settled on leaning against the nearest thing, which was a car hood, and tried to keep his head from making the world spin. Despite how it left him, the gratifying feeling of actually making it there to a different part of time was exhilarating. He almost wanted to attempt it again, though he knew right away that was probably unwise. Besides, they needed to scope out the area before they went further just to see what certain things had changed. He was eager to see what had come of the Academy and the others. He was only slightly disappointed there were no flying cars yet. A naive and childishly hopeful thought but he was still a teenager!

"I...yeah, just give me a...minute..." He managed to throw out those words at least, taking his head in his hands as he bent forward, almost afraid he might throw up. The nauseating feeling passed soon however and he was quickly looking up at Vanya through his bangs which had fallen into his eyes after being tousled by his hands. "Christ on a cracker! I've never been this done in by my powers before." He shook his head slowly and blinked a few times before straightening up, if not slightly sagged from the draining escapade. "I think we'll have to walk from here until I build my strength back." He gave her an apologetic smile before pushing off the hood and walking a few steps, his eyes scanning their current surroundings. "The tree huggers lost this to the corporate nazis." He commented, looking at the size of the supermarket and the paved roads where once the wild nature of the once bigger park stood. He looked to Vanya then and smirked softly. "Let's find the nearest newspaper and see what's become of things."

Maybe she was a little rude in how she went about it, how she was so excited and full of praise that she hadn't really considered how he may have felt afterwards. The jump hadn't been like the others, this one had left her a lot more lightheaded than usual and just lousy to boot. And so how he must have felt had to be an even bigger difference when she had stood alongside him when he slipped onto the hood of the car and hand had raised to gently rub along his back when she frowned. From what she had seen for the times she could assist in training exercises, Five had always had his own body work as a sort of kryptonite against him. " Don't rush. "  They had plenty of time to look around and his own exhaustion had been a much bigger concern over seeing what was what. " You also never did this before either. " Just to point out the obvious. But she was worried, that much she had shown with little care if he chose to be bothered by it or not.

She hadn't minded walking, the point was that they were there now. The two had made it to the future and now everything they wanted to get away from was far behind them. She still felt that pain from how her 'family' had been, how that nail in the coffin really came when Reginald purposely excluded her from a portrait with the rest of the family,  that reminder that she really hadn't belonged there, and that one time that Vanya had really let her feelings of how she felt show when she ran away in tears.  She'd cried before, oh so often.  But her own crying was often done behind the closed doors of her room where no one could bother her, not out there, not where they could just see it as another weakness from someone who was never special. Screw them, her and Five hadn't needed any of them.

" I can't believe that they got rid of all that! " So maybe she was one of those tree-huggers, thank you very much! Vanya may have not gone out too much but spending time in the courtyard had always been something she enjoyed,  it was peaceful, pretty, and it really let her be left to her own thoughts most of the time with everyone being more busy training. It was far nicer than apartment after apartment crammed together with stores in between like their city had been. But that was her, she really hadn't known how Five felt about the whole thing, if he were a city person or more into the secluded sort of living.  The latter being pretty much what Vanya would have liked the most. It wasn't like anyone save for him had noticed her anyway,  and she hadn't any intention to change it.

Still, steps had been slow, if only so she wasn't pulling him along and making him feel more tired. " How do you feel? We can stop walking and wait instead. It's okay. " What was that he had teased her about? A nurse? How she was always taking care of him? From bumps and bruises to the occasion wound by the bad guys. And now, checking in to make sure that he hadn't been too worn out yet! " There's no sense to enjoying the future if you're too worn out. " She smiled once more, brown eyes glancing to his. He really had nice eyes. Some thing which made Vanya look away from when she felt that possibility that she may end up blushing like an idiot because she took notice.  Oh,  thank goodness for that long straight boring hair. If anything it got in her face and hid those rosy cheeks.

Five had tried to wave her motherhenning off but he found himself walking closer to her in order to simply keep from falling sideways, his shoulder leaning into her side. He wasn't intentionally trying to be this close to her but he couldn't say he didn't enjoy the added bonus of a worried Number Seven being more willing to let him get this touchy with her. Both of them weren't very physical people in general, affectionate even, but when it came to each other they were far more comfortable sharing the other's space than with the others or anyone really. Five had been comfortable enough to kiss her on the cheek not five days before! Why he'd done it was mainly to put off Reggy but he'd found himself desiring to know how her skin felt against his lips. She was soft, very soft, and it made her more delicate to him in a way even though he knew how much of a punch Vanya could pull. She was stronger than she appeared and that only made Five admire her more for it. Silent but deadly, he would make her an assassin yet!

"If I thought you would be this worrisome over me I might have thought it better to leave you behind." He spoke into her ear glibly, but it was all an act if she looked at the smart smile jutting from his jaw. "It's too bad I find that so endearing about you." Five was close enough to her face to give her a kiss, just a plain ole innocent one, but he thought better of it, biting his lip inwardly as he pulled away to look toward where they were headed back to the main part of town. It shouldn't be too much further of a walk, he guesstimated, and found himself placing an arm lazily over Vanya's back and shoulders. For support, of course. "Just keep walking, we'll stop at a cafe or something eventually and rest there." He said, content with just walking in silence for a while as they observed the changed locale around them. People definitely had a different fashion sense in 2015, and was. it him or did people seem more serious than he remembered before? Hum.

"I wonder if the Academy has disbanded yet. Or if anyone's stayed behind." He asked after a while, glancing up at the sky in thought as they got closer and closer into the heart of the city squares. He could picture at least two likely candidates for keeping the vigilante group going and that was loyal Luther and dumb Diego. Allison was probably out doing her own thing getting her way with her power and what not; Klaus? Prison perhaps? Or else just wasting away in rehab with his drug problem.

" You couldn't leave me behind for caring too much. " He couldn't, could he? " Right? " And before she knew it, she was questioning what was meant to be a joke. Still, it was hard to linger on that concern, not when he had been nearly leaning into her and she found herself soon pulled in by his arm around her. It's only for support. Vanya let herself down with the most obvious of excuses. Much like him, she hadn't been so accustomed to the touches of others. Five had been the exception, every so often a simple gesture was shared that had meant so much more while others might've taken it for granted. An occasional hand held, maybe the brush of fingertips along her cheek, the way that she could get away with sometimes playing with his hair a little.  All those simple things that were only being discovered now! Of course, the thought alone had Vanya smiling like a fool, a fool that was quick to lower her gaze until she had recovered more. It really hadn't helped either that he was close enough to kiss, or she was close enough to have been kissed again. Something which Vanya really had found herself oddly hoping for. " Hopefully soon. I don't think I can carry you. " Yet, she was back to looking for somewhere to stop. For all the shops, most had been different than she remembered seeing, and most of them looked as though they barely even offered a spot to sit leading her to have to continue to keep her eyes peeled for something to call to them.

Everything seemed so different, Vanya wanted to pay attention to Five, but found her own attention distracted by the types of clothing people wore, to the way almost all of them had their heads buried in some type of technology.  Even in the 90's a cell phone wasn't that impressive yet! " We should get a paper too, just to see you know.. what the world is up to. " First things first though, and that was getting Five back on his quick thinking feet.  Then, as it were Vanya could feel her hands shaking. her own anxiety building up by being in a place so similar to home and yet so different all at once. For a moment, a hand tried to get her medicine from her pocket, only to realize that they had been in the opposite pocket that was more or less closer to where Five was leaning on her. It'd have to wait. " Look. " Not too excited, and yet she had been.  Vanya pointed out a small coffee shop with many of it's tiny circular tables sitting out front. " Let's stay there for a bit, come on. " And a hand had gone for his without much thought, only that fingers had entwined with his own and she had given a gentle tug to pull Number Five along.

" You just want to rub it in Dad's face that you did it. " Oh she was proud too, don't get her wrong! " I can't say for most of them, but I'm sure Luther and Diego are still fighting over who should be number one. " Not that being number one seemed to get you anywhere. First in line maybe,  but other than that, Vanya hadn't seen any extra treatment handed out. " I hope Ben figured something out. " Five may have been the most important to her, but then there was still that worry for Ben too. He had such a horrible power and it always seemed ironic that she had wanted powers, while she was fairly certain that Number Six would have much rather done without them. Klaus, he probably ran off and joined a circus or something, or had been so high on drugs. It was unfortunate. Allison who knew,  she could be living in a high rise at that moment with a vault of money all earned by her bending of reality.  Vanya soon took her seat, her hand at last releasing his.
