Brian slowly sipped away at his tea as he snuck a quick glance across the street. He was sat outside a small café, enjoying an overpriced tea. He wasn’t wearing anything too fancy apart from an expensive and stylish suit, though considered he usually wore very patriotic armour this was something of a step down…or up, depending on your tastes.  The suit helped him blend in with the people of the area who came from a wealthier background than most of London. He was not here for pleasure, nor the expensive tea. It was the building across the street he kept looking up at.

Deep inside that building was an object of incredible worth and power. He was hunting the legendary sword Excalibur. The sword had come onto Brian’s radar recently whilst he was taking down the British branch of Hydra and it was revealed it have once been in their possession before they sold it on to another criminal syndicate. He made many inquiries about the syndicate and the sword, and by the end of his search he was sick of saying the phrase “yes, THAT Excalibur”. He found in an underground auction for stolen and powerful mystic artefact happening none other than across the street.

When they weren’t bringing his cup of tea to his lips, his fingers were tapping impatiently on the table before him. As tempting as it was to simply raid the place, he was bound by the laws of the land and required a warrant, which wasn’t going to be so easy.  The syndicate was well connected and had the best lawyers in London. If he wanted to retrieve the sword and bring the criminals to justice, he had to do this the right way which meant going in undercover and identifying the stolen items.

A funny thing happened when he reached out to MI 13 to request their help: they told him they were already planning a raid on the auction with another powered asset and if he asked nicely he could join. He was provided the details of the meeting, a cover identity and location to meet the asset. It was all very last minute but MI 13 felt they could trust Brian, so he was instructed to meet up with the contact and they would enter the auction together.  He was provided with little information on the contact after MI 13 decided his line wasn’t secure. All he was told was that she worked on before of another government (of-sorts) who wanted to reclaim some artefact that was being sold in the auction.

Once inside, they were to scope everything out and then send back a signal to the police who were waiting not too far away who come running to help arrest everyone that Brian hadn’t punched by the time they got there.

Bad guys would be arrested; Brian would get his hands on Excalibur and see it finds it way into deserving hands.  What could possibly go wrong?

The mission itself had seemed simple enough. She was filled in with the basic details such as location, actual area of the required item, and of course who it was she would be working with. Diana had been instructed to meet with a man at a nearby Café, one which easily enough happened to be directly across the street from a building known for having more shadier dealings than legitimate. The Amazon had to fill herself in some on the story of the Excalibur, and while unique she still had  in understanding the truth worth of it. Not when Diana herself had been brought up on knowledge of powerful things such as Poseidon's trident or Achilles shield.

Whatever the case had been, blue eyes had scanned the café until they landed on the man in question, or at least, one who matched the description given to her with perfection. It helped too, that his attention just so to be on that same building that she had been scoping out for some time. She moved to the table, carefully holding a cup of hot Chai in her hand and dressed in a high-low navy blue dress. She too had been more accustomed to the amazonian armor she wore, but the long sleeves of her dress had at least let the golden bracelets on her wrists remain hidden from sight. " I apologize, I was running late. " She held her hand out, although in truth she had been on time. The idea had been to pitch that notion just to give the man a chance to tell her she was at the wrong table and she could be aware that this was potentially not the person she needed to meet with.  If he were, than she assumed he would know just who she was.

While the MI-13 was willing to give so much information, she could only be handed so much. In turn, she imagined that the same could be said for the other powerful asset that she was to meet with. " I am Diana. "She had no need to say Wonder Woman, a title that only came to her by those who met her upon her arrival in America in what felt like an eternity ago. Once more, eyes looked around the scenery before them as she took in that most of the wealthy of the community were more concerned with their tea and themselves. An actual welcoming feeling, as it meant less eyes had been on the two and the matter at hand that would soon happen. The Princess had planned that the sword being changed hands and the authorities taking those breaking the law away would be a swift and just process.  But then, she had learned fast that at times even the most simple of tasks could end up going badly and creating a greater scene than intended.

“That’s quiet all right,” Brian responded when his contact arrived and apologised for being late. Truth was, he had no idea if she was or not but had no reason to outright rejected her apology.  Instead he smiled and shook her hand before motioning her to sit down. He took this moment to take in the woman he’d be heading into enemy territory with and what he saw put some of his fears and doubts at ease. The woman appeared to be strong and beautiful with a posture that spoke of confidence.

She seemed familiar but it was only when she announced herself as Diana did the puzzle peaces slide into place. “Wow...” he blurted out when he realized he was sitting across from none other than Wonder Woman. He didn’t know many superheroes outside of the X-Men and his American counterpart, but Wonder Woman was one of the big ones. Whilst he was more of a local hero, Diana was global. She was even recognised by the United Nations as an envoy of peace.

“I mean nice to meet you. I’m Brian,” he told her as he regained his mental composure. He was working alongside Wonder Woman. No big deal. He worked with big timers all the time. Still, it would be interesting to see her in action. “I’ve been watching this place for half an hour. I’ve already seen a dozen people enter. All of them looked very rich so I’m guessing the fun isn’t far from beginning. Were you given our invites or do we need to find an alternative entrance?”

" Hello, Brian. " With formalities out of the way, Diana took her seat and looked across the way to that same building as she took in the surroundings. He was dead-on, she had seen many wealthy faces walking in but none had been walking out at all. Ironically, most of the wealthy were the more shadier of sort, those that were under close watch and possibly never had even been aware of such.  But then, who knew? Diana was only learning how important money truly was in the man's world. How some sum of money could apparently buy justice, regardless of how false it were. The thought alone was sickening, and it only felt worse to see that such action hadn't been confined to one country, but many for that matter.

Diana was no stranger to a more dramatic entrance, one which normally involved a pile of knocked out bodies and a lot of bullets flying in every which direction other than at her. But this time, the route given had been an easier one that she much more preferred. At the mention of their way in, Diana had set her clutch purse upon the tabletop and removed an envelope. " Yes. We have been invited. At least with some aid of your associates. " Her words spoken in an accent of a faraway land as she had handed him the envelope and the contents within that spoke of the two and their invite to arrive in oh say? Ten minutes? " I do not know how or why we were able to be legitimately invited. I feel that there may be a reason and it cannot be good. " Or, they had been doing it to save face? That maybe the dealers had really thought inviting Diana Prince of all people would make them appear as the 'good guys' ? Diana was only understanding still how some people worked, not when the Amazons were straight forward with no cutting around the truth.

Once she had handed him the invitation, Diana went for her Chai which she savored a few extra sips of.  She hadn't the time to finish it, but at least what she had of it had been more than well worth the expensive price for it. It was an awful shame that something as lovely as Chai hadn't made it's way to Themyscira. One day she would have to bring some, as a gift to her sisters. Until then, she had more pressing matters to attend to which had involved working with Brian and of course the Excalibur. " Do you have anything hidden on you? " That was an important question. The Princess couldn't promise that they weren't conducting searches at the door, and if he had anything on his person that may draw attention than she may have very well foregone the invites and gone for that not so pleasant but direct approach of entering. She had her bracelets, at least hidden among the sleeves of her dress. " I ask because as you have put it in the man's world.. if we cannot get in the appropriate way we may have to punch our way through. " Oh, she had been talking to the Flash for far too long.

“You’re working with MI 13, and they’re spies; and generally, spies are good for getting access to places they’re not supposed to,”
Brian pointed out as he received the envelope. As he opened it, his attention was drawn to the invitation within. He examined it with his fingers, unsure what he was looking for. It felt real and could very well be so. It was impressive Pete could drum an invitation so quickly, but he was very good at his job. He had enough faith in the MI 13 spymaster that he figured the ID provided in the package would also stand up to muster. He read the name of he was apparently to go under with a tone of amusement,“My cover name is Brian Prince? How regal.”

His brow furrowed a little when she asked him if he had anything hidden on him. He wondered if she was asking him if he had a gun. If he had to guess, she was probably most used to working with Americans since that lot seemed to be into their guns like their lives depended on them. Hell he wouldn’t be surprised if Americans eat cereal with the blasted things. He was about to open his mouth to tell her no, he didn’t like them and didn’t need them when she explained what she meant.

This caused him to smile a little as he realized she had been briefed on him at all. This was really shaping up to be a bit of a Mickey Mouse operation. He was beginning to wonder if he should trust his invitation’s integrity. “Let’s just say I can throw a punch or two,” he told her, leaving out the part where he’d brag he rarely needed more than punches to end a fight. He figured let that be a surprise for her.

“Are you after something specific in this auction,” he left out ‘like me’ from his question, “or are you just anti-illegal auctions in general?” He was sure his handler had already given him some form of an answer, but he wanted to hear it from Diana as she was more likely to provide him with specifics for items he ought to keep an eye out for.

Diana couldn't quite say she had been a 'spy' before. She had done a lot of tasks given to her in the past, but more often than not it was hard to disguise yourself when the world had known her as Wonder Woman. An open identity that Diana was none too ashamed to have the world know. But with MI 13 that was different, a sort of new challenge that Diana took both seriously and also as something somewhat exciting. The Princess loved that sense of adventure, something that came in part to leaving Themyscira and seeing the man's world for what it was. She sipped more of her Chai as he had handled the invitation, even going as far as offering a smirk at his change of name that had appeared. " It looks like I may have missed the ceremony. " Oddly enough, she really didn't ask why they had chose to give them identical surnames, it had to be just so that the invitation could be standalone and less suspicious Still, it got a smile from the Amazonian Princess.

" I'm concerned that we may be searched at the door. " There was that worry, as 'spies' as he had put it. She wondered how convincing the men at the door would be with people coming in one after another and if any had been who they said, or had not been looking to unmask the happenings within the auction. " I am not entirely unarmed. " She muttered, her wrists held up to about chest level so that her sleeves slipped away for the gold bracelets beneath. While not entirely weapons, the way she could make a bullet ricochet back more than made them such. Her lasso too had been available, but that was something she doubted they would have found on her if they dared to try unless they wished to tempt broken fingers. " Good to know. I too can.. throw a punch or two. " As he had put it so thoughtfully. Diana had the most grueling training that her sisters could provide her and she took it all without a complaint and a seriousness that the Amazonian children could look up to, making her a Champion among her own people.

Right to the point though. Diana liked that. Brian's question had made her nod. She had heard of Excalibur but it hadn't been the entire reasoning for her being there. " I must find Selene's pendant. She's a Greek Moon Goddess and while considered only an attractive jewel here, there's a lot more to it that cannot end up in the wrong hands. " Namely Circe, who she expected would have pounced on it at the moment she had the opportunity. Such a thing had to be prevented. " You'll know when you see it, it stands out. " The pendant was on a silver chain, a grayish blue stone that constantly looked like it was glowing. The story was, that it was a piece of moon itself, enchanted as a gift.  If that was the truth remained yet to be seen, but what had mattered was that the magic did exist and needed to be kept from being used. " We should go. " She finally said, not wanting to wait any longer as more people continued to walk into the auction house that she could see.
